Tanner Wells Fine Art

Tanner Wells

A native Texan, Tanner Wells has spent most of his life living on a ranch. The western way of life has always been instilled in him. Shortly after he was born in Austin, his family returned to their ranch in West Texas. Wells’ family moved near Washington, D.C. to live on the Future Farmers of America farm. His father had been selected to help publish the FFA Magazine. Then, the family moved to Missouri to purchase their own national horse magazine which they relocated to Texas. Tanner Wells’ early experiences on the ranch still influence his life today. He currently lives with his wife and family on their ranch in Central Texas. From a lifelong love affair with horses, Tanner has developed a natural desire to paint western art. According to Wells, the romance of the west is still alive in our hearts today. He is thrilled to bring it to life through his paintings. Wells’ artistic talents were recognized early and by the age of thirteen his teachers requested that he paint a western mural for his school. In college, Tanner studied architecture before he received his bachelor’s degree in art. Later, he furthered his education and received his master’s degree. Now over 30 years later, Tanner continues to inspire others to pursue their interests in art by providing lessons in graphite, pen and ink, acrylic, and oils.

Tanner believes that he has acquired a world of knowledge from each of the great artists that he has studied under. The artists that Wells believes has mentored and inspired him the most include Bill Anton, Tony Eubanks, Bruce Greene, Martin Grelle, George Hallmark, and Jason Rich. He is impressed with the quality of their work, and also with their high standards and constant willingness to share their own personal knowledge with other artists.

Recently, Tanner was honored with the Southwest Art Magazine: An Artist to Collect” Award for his piece Just Another Day in the American Plains Art Show and Sale. Besides Texas, Wells participates in western art shows and sales in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming. Previous shows have included the Art of the Plains Art Show, Celebration of Western Art Show and Sale at the Grand National Rodeo, Empire 100 Art Show and Sale, The Night of Artists Art Sale and Gala, Stamford Art Foundation Exhibit and Sale, Western Spirit Art Show and Sale, and RoundUp and Collector’s Classic shows at the Museum of Western Art. Wells’ work has been featured in show advertisements in Southwest Art and Western Art Collector magazines
